I gotta say. That season 4 opening two-parter was KILLER!!! I loved it so much!!!!
So, what in it did I absolutely love? Well. Have a list!
The animation was fantastic!! I love how much the quality has improved! Even though I saw it in 360p (poop youtube but whatever), the special effects and lighting and movement and colors were so much better than I'd ever seen them!!! I could say they're so much better than season 1 or 2, but in truth, the animation quality was a huge step up from even Magical Mystery Cure and Equestria Girls! I gotta say, the long season break really helped those animators improve a lot!
Voice performance left me saying, "DAAAAAANG!!" Those ladies gave it their all when recording the dialogue, and I could tell! But specifically, I was extremely impressed with Nicole Oliver's performance. I have never heard so many different emotions from Celestia, and I had never expected to. Just hearing her rage and anguish and fear, more than ever before. Nicole, through her astounding performance, may have just secured Celestia's place as new Best Princess for me! I was also really impressed with Ashleigh Ball's performance, especially in the beginning when Applejack explains the bit about the elements of harmony tying them all together. I was amazed with how great Ashleigh portrayed her Applejack, and her Rainbow Dash, too, though AJ stood out more to me. (Also, the one part in the beginning with Sweetie Belle left me a little shocked. Claire Corlett has gotten older since EQG, guys.)
Twilight's flying. I love it. I love that the whole season started with a scene of her learning to fly. Rainbow Dash makes an adorable trainer and Twilight is more adorable than ever when struggling with her wings. But I like that throughout PTS Part 1, she gradually gets better and better at flying until she gets to the point where she can make the entire trip from Canterlot to Ponyville almost flawlessly. I'm really proud of Twilight for her dedication, and I think she'll make an excellent flyer throughout the season. I'm excited to see where her new wings will take her!
Pinkie Pie is funnier than ever before!!! It's a shame she wasn't really there for more than just humor, because I missed the level-headed version of her that sometimes comes up. But still, McCarthy wrote her perfectly! I think every line she spoke was hilarious, and her humor is entirely flawless!! Oh Pinkie, I've missed you so much, and I'm so glad you're here to make me smile again!!
Who didn't love Discord in PTS? Seriously, he was pretty much the homemade icing on this delicious chocolate cake of an episode! Who knew that good Discord could be just as awesome as evil Discord!!!!!
You realize this is information we could have used HOURS AGO?!
And rob you of a valuable lesson about being princess? What kind of friend would do something like that, hmm?
It's nice to know that in his own trolling sort of humor, Discord can use his chaotic power to help a friend with a life lesson. I appreciate that, as good as his heart has become, he's still himself, and he's still awesome. Meghan McCarthy, kudos on staying true to the Discord we've loved from the start!!
Winter Wrap Up, Winter Wrap Up!!!
History. The freaking history of freaking Celestia and Luna! Enough headcanons, now we know exactly how it went down!! Das awesome.
Basically just the satisfaction of knowing that My Little Pony is back, taking a new direction, and rocking it all the way through! The awesome knowledge that now I have something to look forward to every weekend, and knowing that I only have to wait another week before the next MLP, which is basically a couple minutes compared to the nine-month break that just ended.
SO yeah! Princess Twilight Sparkle, Parts 1 and 2, made up the best season opener ever to come out of MLP, and I'm thrilled to see where the cast and crew will take us next week, and the week after, and the week after, and so on...
Have a great Thanksgiving, America!!
